This sailing yacht is a well-designed cruising boat that should appeal to sailors who prefer clean modern styling combined with more traditional accommodation layouts. The large, practical fold-down transom will appeal to families who enjoy spending time on the water; it will also appeal to those who value easy tender access.
The deck plan of the sailing yacht clears space and simplifies maneuvering on a very stable seaworthy hull. She has made great strides in her ability to balance sailing speed with the pleasure of living on board. Long-distance cruises are now much safer.
The cockpit is quite spacious, but it is divided by a large fixed table with folding leaves, allowing the crew to easily brace themselves to windward when the boat is heeled. This table has two insulated storage compartments, and our test boat had a multi-function nav display mounted in a module at the stern end, where it could be seen from either helm station.
Helm ergonomics are good, with clear forward sightlines and a variety of comfortable steering positions. A long bench seat directly behind the wheels allows others to easily come aft and socialize with the helmsperson.
The electrically controlled full-width fold-down transom is the cockpit's most impressive feature. With the push of a button, the entire transom, including the bench seat behind the helms, folds flat to form a massive teak-covered beach that sits almost flush with the water. Small pets and even infants will be able to crawl on and off the boat from a tender with ease.
There are four interior layouts to choose from, ranging from two lavish charter configurations (four staterooms with two heads or three staterooms with three heads) to two more moderate plans (three staterooms with two heads or two staterooms with two heads). Our test boat had the two-stateroom layout, which is unquestionably the best choice for stowage space. Instead of a second aft stateroom to port, this design includes a spacious pantry as well as a massive storage room beneath the galley that can also be accessed from the cockpit.
Both moderate layouts have short settees to port, forward of the galley, with a clever sliding combination end-table/nav-table that can be placed between or at either end of the two seats. This is very versatile, but if you want a dedicated navigation space, you'll be disappointed. Both charter layouts have long in-line galleys to port and no nav space at all.
This sailing yacht is propelled by a 54hp Yanmar diesel engine and is available with the new Dock & Go drive system. This combines a rotating saildrive leg with a bow thruster and joystick control, allowing you to steer the boat with your fingertips sideways (or in any other direction). This is a pricey option (approximately $15,000), but those who dislike maneuvering sailboats at close quarters under power will appreciate it.
