Astypalea
Astypalea cannot be expressed in terms that do it credit. It keeps heritage while blending a cosmopolitan air, making it ideal for visitors looking for a one-of-a-kind getaway. From the imposing Venetian Castle to the yacht marina at Pera Yalos, the lovely village expands out. The windmills add a splash of color to the charming village. The exquisite architecture tempts visitors to explore the tiny labyrinth alleyways and little attractive neighborhoods.
The numerous characteristics of this one-of-a-kind and really charming island, with its stunning beaches, spectacular sunrises, and deep blue coasts, will enchant you and entice you to return year after year.
The islands Koutsomitis and Kounoupes
Astypalaia's "exotic zone" is Koutsomitis and Kounoupes. The seas and habitat differ from those found on the remainder island. You may reach the two islands by renting a private boat from Livadia beach or by tour boat from Pera Yalos and Maltezana ports.
Kounoupes island has a unique character that is worth visiting when in Astypalaia. The visitor will discover a very attractive double beach (a very thin strip of land joins one side of the island to the other, making the beach on both sides) with water that appears to be pool-like.
Koutsomitis and Tigani islands are nearby. is a lovely day trip for boats departing from Pera Gialos and combining with a visit to Kounoupes. The Koutsomitis-Tigani gap affords a wonderful route for small boats with crystal clear waters. During your stay, you must cross the pass to the opposite Tigani. You may cling to the pebbled shore on either side of the islands.
Swim at the “Red Cliff”
The "Red Cliff" is another wonderful site in Astypalea that I discovered this year. A cave on the eastern side of the island that may be reached by land (through a trekking trail) or by sea. It can be combined with a trip to the islands. The name "Red Cliff" refers to the color of the rock as viewed from inside the cave, which has a little red colour.
There is an aperture and a tiny swimming area inside the cave. You can depart the cave by swimming underwater down a tight path (advised only for experienced swimmers) or by returning the same way you came in.
