Kalpitiya, Sri Lanka
Kalpitiya features Sri Lanka's biggest coral reef. Many travelers have left it unspoiled and unprotected. It is home to a wide variety of colorful fish and sea critters. There are various diving sites in the water, and we organize professional dive sessions
The diving season at Kalpitiya begins in late November and lasts until early May. (though this can vary by a couple of weeks either end, depending on the exact dive location and type of dive you want to do).
During this period, the west coast of Sri Lanka experiences optimum wind and water conditions, making it ideal for scuba diving and snorkeling. There will be little wind, little currents, and reasonably calm sea conditions.
The biggest coral reef in Sri Lanka (Bar reef) is about an hour's boat ride from Kalpitiya for enthusiastic scuba divers and snorkelers. This stunning reef is home to an enormous diversity of tropical fish, as well as manta rays, reef sharks, and the odd turtle.
