Three days of vacation on a yacht equal to a week ashore. Life on our sailing boat will transfer you to another universe, one where time, body and space feel completely different, like in a timeless dream.
Having 3 days available, we can plan various programmes depending on what you like. We will propose two choices of trips that will make you feel like you are somewhere very far away. We are lucky that two heavens on earth, the virgin Diapontia islands, almost unknown to most, and the cosmopolitan Paxos – Antipaxos, are very easily accessible, being just a few miles off the coast of Corfu.
The Diapontia islands, a concealed paradise in the north-western part of Greece, form a cluster of pristine islands radiating with exotic beauty.
Our sailing adventure will lead us towards the largest islands, Ereikoussa and Othoni, which come alive during the summer when locals who have worked abroad, including the US, return home, accompanied by numerous tourists, especially from nearby Italy. These islands present a universe utterly distinct from the cosmopolitan Corfu, and we will approach them with the utmost respect for their rare purity.
Ereikoussa, the northernmost island in the Ionian Sea, boasts a circular shape spanning just 2 km. It is adorned with olive trees, cypresses, myrtles, thymes, sage, rosemary, and heathers, which lend the island its name ("reiki" meaning heather in Greek). In October, the island turns purple with the blooming heathers. Ereikoussa's honey is highly sought-after, adding to its allure. At the captivating Braghini beach, characterized by crystal-clear waters and golden sand dotted with white lilies, we will indulge in a refreshing swim. Our sail will lead us to Porto, the island's recently inaugurated port, where you can stroll through the scenic settlement and enjoy a swim on the clean, sandy beach. As the sun sets, you can either relish a tranquil dinner onboard the yacht or savor local delicacies at one of the island's few yet excellent restaurants.
Interests: Swimming, unspoiled beaches, sand dunes, hiking, wild herbs, delightful cuisine, honey, and a peaceful vacation.
Othoni, Greece's westernmost island, lies a mere 5 miles from Ereikoussa. Known as Fanos as well (meaning lighthouse in Greek), it used to be the first beacon seen by ships traveling from the north. The island boasts impressive mountainous terrain adorned with wild cypresses, olive trees, and aromatic shrubs. It houses five settlements, breathtaking beaches, and Greece's mythical cave, the cave of Calypso. Many believe Othoni to be the Ogygia of Homer's epic, where Odysseus spent seven years under the spell of the nymph Calypso before his journey to modern-day Corfu. Near the emerald waters of the cave lies the picturesque Psili Ammos, a white beach nestled beneath an imposing vertical rock, reflected in its clear-blue waters. After ample swimming and diving, we will explore the undiscovered bays of the island and then head to its port, Ammos, featuring the Avlaki fishing refuge, charming tavernas, and cafes. Othoni is a perfect destination for hiking, with traditional pathways leading to nearby settlements adorned with stone houses and fig trees, accompanied by the aromatic scents of oregano and sage.
Interests: Swimming, diving, hiking, mountains, delectable cuisine, olive oil, serenity, and mythology.
Alternate return route: If you prefer not to spend all your available time on the Diapontia islands, we can set sail early on the last day to swim at the verdant bays of Erimitis on northeast Corfu. These bays represent one of the island's most vital and beautiful ecosystems, struggling to preserve its natural state amidst the expansion of tourist development. Along our way back, we can enjoy lunch at one of the lovely beachside tavernas scattered along Corfu's lush east coast.
Please remember that the final plan of the trip will be decided together, considering your preferences, available time, and weather conditions.
