Blue Cave Croatia
Not only is the Blue Cave one of the world's most unique natural phenomena, but this bright and beryl attraction on Bisevo island is destined to be the highlight of your Croatian vacation. Mother Nature's magnificent work, this cerulean oasis is so unique because it was formed by seawater eroding limestone, the rock Bievo island is entirely composed of. Because of the sunlight's reflection off the white seabed, which creeps through the opening of a vault at the top of the cave, a mesmerizing blue hue fills its capacity. The Blue Cave was only recently opened to the public, but it has quickly established itself as a Croatian hotspot.
If you're planning a trip to the Croatian coast in the summer, one of the Dalmatian islands is a must-see. You can design your ideal vacation, whether you seek solitude and peace or want to party your way around Split's archipelago. This post is intended to guide those of you who are looking for a nature adventure and will not help the thirsty partygoers in the group. Even if you are, we recommend that you continue reading. Consider the following scenario: you're on vacation in Dalmatia, specifically in Split, the region's capital. If you've already explored the historic city center, which includes the ancient and UNESCO-protected Diocletian's Palace, the 'green lungs of Split' (also known as Marjan hill), bustling beaches, bars, and boutiques, the next item on your "to do list" should be a visit to the Blue Cave.
Grab a physical map of Croatia (available for free at any tourist information office or most hotel/hostel/private accommodation receptions), or pull up a map on your smartphone, and look at the coast – there are over a thousand islands, and you get to explore one of them. If you're researching the Blue Cave ahead of time, you should know that the Blue Cave you'll be sailing to is on Bisevo island, not Cres island in northwestern Croatia. Now that we're all looking in the same direction, let's get into the specifics of the Blue Cave.
But first, some background information. Looking at your map, you'll notice that the closest island to Split is Olta, followed by Bra, Hvar, Vis, and a small island southwest of Vis called Bisevo. Yes, you guessed it – the Blue cave's home. This may appear to be a long way from your home base in Split, but don't worry – there are hundreds of quick and easy speedboat tours that will whisk you away from Split and back in a day. Moving on to logistics, a speedboat ride from Split to the Blue Cave takes approximately one hour and 45 minutes, though this ride is not nearly as long as it sounds. Remember how you're on a speedboat cruising around Croatia's coast
When you arrive at Bievo island, disembark the speedboat and the skipper will give you your cave entrance ticket. Only small wooden boats are permitted to take you inside, and once inside, you'll understand why.
