Croatia is a vibrant countryCroatia is without a doubt one of Europe's most stunning sailing areas, given to its location, pleasant warm climate, clean seas, and fascinating coastline. The Croatian Adriatic, often known as "the coast of a thousand islands," provides around 2600 hours of sunshine each year, a comfortable Mediterranean climate, and everything that comes with it: the scent of pine trees, lavender, olive groves, vineyards, and the rich world of the sea itself.
Croatia spans from the Julian Alps' foothills in the north west to the Pannonian Plain in the east, passing through the Dinara mountain range in the center to the Adriatic coast in the south.

The largest islands are those of Krk and Cres. There are 67 inhabited islands. • Climate: Northern Croatia has a continental climate; Central Croatia has a semi-highland and highland climate, while the Croatian coast has a Mediterranean climate. Winter temperatures range from -1 to 10°C in the continental region, -5 to 0°C in the mountain region and 5 to 10°C in the coastal region. Summer temperatures range from 22 to 26°C in the continental region, 15 to 20°C in the mountain region and 26 to 30°C in the coastal region. • Population: The majority of the population are Croats. National minorities include Serbs, Bosnians, Slovenes, Hungarians, Czechs, Slovaks, Italians, and others. • Official language and alphabet: Croatian language and Latin alphabet. Religions: The majority of the population are Roman Catholics, and in addition there are a number of those of Orthodox faith, as well as Muslims, and Christians of other denominations. Weather in CroatiaThe general weather situation in the Mediterranean, as well as local climate factors, influence weather conditions in the Adriatic. Sailing season is from April to September. Early summer is the greatest time to go sailing because there are more favorable winds in May and June. The months of July and August are great for individuals who love calm waters. September is also an excellent month for sailing.
WindsThere are a few common Adriatic winds
• BURA (NE) - This is a strong mountain breeze. The Gulf of Trieste, the Kvarner, the Velebit Channel, the region around Sibenik, the Split region, Peljesac, and the area around Dubrovnik are all experiencing strong winds. It only lasts a few hours in the summer and usually only one or two days. • JUGO (SE) - A southerly wind is blowing. It frequently blows for several days, bringing thick clouds, high humidity, and rain with it. • MAESTRAL (NW) - This is the "excellent weather wind." It normally starts blowing around 11 a.m. and ends in the late afternoon. The next day, after a restful night, it resumes the cycle. On the Beaufort scale, it can reach a force of 4-5. • TRAMONTANA (N) is a Bura variant. It does not blow as hard or as squally as the Bora does. Tramontana is primarily found in the Adriatic Sea's southern reaches. Other winds • BURIN (NE) blows in the summer from the mainland. • Another type of bora is the easterly LEVANAT. • PULENAT blows from west and lebic from south-west. • NEVERA, a violent westerly, comes as a storm or squall. In the summer, storms in the Adriatic are sudden and violent and produce a short-lasting swell. The Adriatic storms have an advantage in that they are short-lived and some of them leave behind refreshingly chilly air. The Adriatic features the usual wind rhythm during periods of high pressure: winds from the land at night and winds from the sea during day.
Tides and currentsTides are minor in the southern Adriatic, but as you travel north-west, they become increasingly powerful. In Croatian waters, the tidal range is modest, and the sea level is influenced primarily by changes in barometric pressure. The Adriatic is home to three types of currents: tidal streams, regular inshore currents, and wind-driven surface drift currents. In the Adriatic Sea, they are all feeble and insignificant.
Weather reportsSeveral times a day, the coastal radio stations broadcast weather bulletins in Croatian and English. A general weather report, messages, and the forecast for the next 24 hours are included in the reports. The following times are when weather reports are broadcast: (in UTC; UTC + 1 h = CET; CET + 1 h = CE summer time)
• Rijeka Radio VHF Channel 24 - 05.35 14.35 19.35 • Split Radio VHF Channels 21, 23, 07, 28 - 05.45 12.45 19.45 • Dubrovnik Radio VHF Channels 04, 07 - 06.25 13.20 21.20 Sea rescue serviceCoastal radio stations (Rijeka Radio, Split Radio and Dubrovnik Radio) receive messages round the clock (from 0 to 24 hours) on VHF-channel 16 and on the following channels:
• Rijeka Radio 21, 40, 4 • Split Radio 21, 23, 07, 28 • Dubrovnik Radio 07, 04At least throughout the day, you can reach harbour master's offices and marinas on VHF channel 17. The majority of harbour master's offices have their own patrol boats, which can assist boats in distress even in extreme weather. Split - ancient city and center of Middle Dalmatia PositionDalmatia's heart. The peninsula between the eastern part of today's Gulf of Katela and the Split Channel, protected from the western part of the peninsula by the Marjan hill and the ridges Kozjak and Mosor rising in the east and north-east by the Marjan hill and the ridges Kozjak and Mosor rising in the east and north-east by the ridges Kozjak and Mosor rising in the east and north-east by the ridges Kozjak and Mosor rising in the Everything is visible in a protected bay. This is an ideal location.
HistoryAspalathos was the name of an ancient Greek village that existed thousands of years ago on the Adriatic coast. One of the challenges of living at the period was calling a freshly established settlement. Greeks being Greeks, they glanced about and observed the slopes of the mountains around them rich with Aspalathos, Weaver's broom, a plant that was widely used in the rope-and honey-making industries. As a result, the name stuck to the growing and declining villages throughout the years. All variations of the name Aspalathos have come to Split today: Spalatum, Spalato, Spalatrum, Spalathensis, Aspalathon, Aspalatuo, Spalati, Spljet.
Around 300 AD, the Roman Emperor Diocletian, who was from the major neighboring town of Salona, grew tired of ruling the globe and built a lavish mansion in his former backyard. After his death, the palace where he lived and was buried was used as a residence for exiled Roman emperors and their families. Salona's residents sought refuge within the sturdy walls of Diocletian's palace after the city collapsed, and a new settlement arose both inside and outside the palace. Split seems to never enjoy a moment of calm even a thousand years afterwards. As the town flourished and became more significant for its geographical position on the Adriatic coast and adjacent to the inland passage, it experienced turbulent periods and continuous overthrows. King Petar Kreimir IV annexed Split to the Croatian state in 1069, but the protectorate of Venice was recognised in 1420. It fell under Austrian control after the fall of Venice in 1797, along with the rest of Dalmatia, and was transferred to France in 1805. The 1882 elections in Split established Croatian administration, which was forever linked to the fate of Croatia from that point on, until achieving peace after the Croatian war for independence in the 1990s.
HeritageSplit was left with the permanent reminders of these periods in the form of the Old Town, the city's oldest nucleus, after suffering throughout history. It is the most valuable specimen of Roman architecture on the Adriatic's eastern shore, and it is housed within the walls of Diocletian's Palace. Today's cathedral of St. Domnius was built in the 7th century, with the Romanesque bell tower added in the 12th century, from Diocletian's mausoleum. With the flourishing of the city, various works of art appeared both outside and inside the palace.
• The Papalić Palace (15th c.), the most important example of Gothic architecture in Split, it houses the Museum of the City of Split. Its architectonic details bear distinctive marks of Juraj Dalmatinac's workshop • The Agubio Palace (Gothic portal) • The statue of Grgur Ninski (a work by Ivan Meštrović) • The Cindro Palace, the most beautiful Baroque palace in Split • The pre-Romanesque church of Holy Trinity • The Renaissance cloister in which tombstones of Split patrician families are gathered • The Bishop's Palace built in neo-Renaissance style • The chapel of St. Arnir (1445) by Juraj Dalmatinac • The church of Our lady of the Belfry (Baroque altar, Byzantine Icon from 11th c., wall paintings by Meneghello from 1412) • The monastery and the church of St. Francis (13th c.) • The Meštrović Citadel • The Gripe fortress (17th c.) Present daySplit was the most important port on the Adriatic coast at the turn of the twentieth century. It is no longer so in the twenty-first century, but it has become one of Croatia's most important tourist destinations, particularly in terms of naval tourism. Other sectors include the processing of plastic masses, the cement industry, food, and other items, in addition to the strong shipbuilding industry. Many cultural structures, including the National Theater, the Museum of Croatian Archaeological Monuments, the Institute of Oceanography and Fishery, and its aquarium, contribute to the preservation of Croatian history, culture, and nature. Another fascinating aspect of Split is the sports culture that pervades the city and its citizens. Since the 1948 London Olympics, nearly 100 persons have won an Olympic medal, making Split a true Olympic town. Split's football gem HNK Hajduk, as well as other clubs with a rich history in sports such as basketball, waterpolo, and sailing, are a source of pride and love that will never fade. It's probable that none of the above would be feasible without the scorching, dry summers and mild, humid winters that make Split one of Europe's sunniest cities. Split, with its evergreen Mediterranean foliage and subtropical flora, was long a popular tourist destination. Nowadays, the main wheel that turns the economy wheels of Split and SunLife charter, tourism, is fueled by this climate.
